There have been thousands of paradigm shifts throughout human history, and even more before our civilization existed. Within class we have looked at several shifts, the following illustrates our thinking for some of the most important ones:
- Capitalism – This covers a large topic of discussion, one of the many ideas we focused on looks at idea of currency. The way in which we pay for items have changed. During the hunter-gather period, we traded food for other necessities such as clothing. Fast forward a couple of centuries, we have created a paper based system that allows items to be purchased with money.
- Politics – This is an never ending shift as new parties are created and destroyed on a nearly yearly basis (e.g. BNP and Brexit Party). Once a new party is created it pushes for change in policies and fundamentally a change in society.
- War – This has been at the heart of any great change, when two ideas conflict of how the future should look, you can almost guarantee a war is lurking. The greatest war in recent history being World War II, there was great conflict of what society should look like and also the events that created these conditions. As a result a new paradigm was created after the war, where humans were more concerned about each, no matter what country they were from.
